Preparing New Educators

QRTA is supporting the development of an induction program for newly hired teachers and principals in Jordan, in partnership with Jordan’s Ministry of Education. The goals of the new induction program are to ensure that all newly hired teachers have basic proficiency in classroom practices and can, after one year of support, demonstrate progress in acquiring the dispositions, knowledge, and skills required to meet Jordan’s National Teacher Professional Standards. To initiate the process, the QRTA has convened design teams of Jordanian public school teachers to draft curricula in six areas: Arabic, English, mathematics, science, generalist teaching (grades 1-3), and leadership skills for school administrators. Under the leadership of TC and QRTA, the draft instructional modules created by these six design teams will form the basis of a comprehensive training program to provide new teachers and school directors the practical skills, experiences, and theoretical insights needed to transition effectively into their new roles supporting student learning in public schools. Next steps in the development process include piloting and revising the training program with a small cohort of new teachers and principals. The program’s operation in Jordan provides a strong foundation for adaptation throughout the Middle East.
